Cyst

Cyst

There are two common types of cyst:

  • Epidermoid cyst (sebaceous cyst) - originate in the epidermis of the skin and most commonly occur on the back, chest, groin, and under the arms.
  • Pilar cyst - originate in the hair follicles and are common on the scalp but can also occur in other areas of the body

Cyst start of as small bumps and can grow to larger sizes. They can cause pressure on the surrounding tissue, redness, inflammation, and drainage. The best treatment option is an incision and drainage of the cysts and possible oral antibiotic therapy depending on the severity of the cyst.
